Winter League Match Report – 31.03.2019

Categories: News,Rabbits

The first of the 2 compulsory rounds of the winter league took place on Sunday 31 st March.
Simon Hemmington and Allan Stobbs were tied for 1 st place at the start of the day but scores
of 34 and 30 respectively means that Simon takes a 4 shot lead into the final round next

In tough blustery conditions, Mick Heys took his 3 rd win of the season with an impressive 39
points. This moved Mick into 3 rd place overall but unfortunately, he’s unable to play in the
final week due to a family wedding taking him out of the running.

Warren Duckworth was unable to make up any ground on the leaders scoring 30 points,
likewise reigning champion Chris Thornsby who scored 32 is 13 points off the lead. A late
run of good form for Russ Waring had put him in a strong position with a couple of weeks to
go but a disappointing 26 points leaves him fighting for a top 5 position at best.

Despite the wind 5 players were able to score 2’s, Chris Thornsby, Simon Hemmington, Alan
Payne, Paul Lukaszyk and Jonny Robertson with Chris’s attempt on the par 3 14 th narrowly
missing a hole in 1.

The final round has thrown up some surprises in recent years, Bill Simpson came from over
10 shots back to take the title a few years ago so its still all to play for.

Normally a draw for playing partners takes place but as is customary the top 3 will be
grouped together on the final day to add to the competitive edge.

The season finale will be followed by the usual legendary winter league dinner.
